The Troy Foundation
To improve the quality of life for the community we serve
by promoting philanthropy and stewardship for a better tomorrow.

There are many flexible ways to support your interests, and the choice is yours. How involved do you wish to be in your grant making? Do you want to give to a specific organization(s) or a specific area interest? Establish a scholarship to honor or memorialize a loved one or someone who has made an impact on your life? Create or continue your business giving program? Whatever your charitable goals, there is a fund option for you.

The Troy Foundation works with donors every day to help connect them to the causes that matter to them. We offer a number of fund options for you, your family, business or non-profit organization. The funds are flexible and you can decide how much or how little you would like to be involved in making grants from the fund.

A fund at the Foundation can operate like a private foundation, but without the administrative and legal burdens associated with private foundations.

A Community Fund is the broadest option, and helps to meet the ever-changing needs of the community both now and in the future. A community fund, or unrestricted fund, awards grants to qualified organizations to support the needs of our community and its residents.

With a community fund, the donor leaves the decisions of which organizations will benefit from its grants to the Foundation. You trust the Foundation’s extensive experience and knowledge of the community to identify the most pressing needs and effective programs. A community Fund will remain timely and relevant, providing grants to meet the current needs of the community.

Donor Advised Funds allow the donor to take a more active role in grant making (whether local or national). A Donor Advised Fund provides maximum flexibility for your grant making and allows you to designate advisors to make recommendations regarding grants from your fund to assist during your lifetime, or to take over once you are gone.

There are several options to choose from:
  • Single advised fund – Allows you to make grant recommendations
  • Family advised fund –Provides a simple and popular way for your family to engage in organized philanthropy
  • Corporate advised fund – offers flexible options for businesses’ charitable giving programs. Your company or business can outsource all – or part – of its charitable giving program to the Foundation for management. You gain our expertise and knowledge of the non-profit community to make your giving easier.
Field of Interest Fund – If you are interested in a specific cause (the environment, youth programs, arts, education) or a geographical area (a town or a county) you can create a fund to award grants that support these interests, yet it does not restrict grants to any one particular organization.

Designated Fund – This type of fund supports one or more specific charitable organizations in perpetuity. A Designated Fund may help a single organization, a food pantry, a school, etc. during your life and after you death. If a beneficiary organization ceases to exist, loses its tax exempt status or changes its mission, the Foundation has the ability to redirect support to a similar organization to honor your original intent.

Scholarship Fund – Scholarship funds may support any level of education (i.e. high school seniors or students already enrolled in college), and may be directed toward students who are graduates of a particular high school, students planning to attend a particular secondary or post-secondary school, students in a particular field, etc. Our staff can assist your client in determining the criteria to be used to select the recipients each year.

Organizational Endowment Fund – The Foundation assists other charitable organizations in managing their assets. By establishing an endowment fund at the Foundation, non-profit organizations are relieved of the administrative burdens and costs associated with holding its own endowment fund.
